Year 1

Inspired by the ‘veiled lady’ mushroom, technology and design was used to solve the problem of mass production in the fashion industry. Mushrooms are vital to our worlds ecosystem, as they are considered the nervous system of the Earth that connects all living things. The question of how to create a sense of connectedness in fashion was raised when wondering how this design can be applied both asthetically and conceptually.

The concept was that, if people could somehow 3-D print garments, then they would be able to create unique clothing without supporting textile waste. Individuality would be promoted and values/ideals that have been set from earlier generations would be modernized. For example instead of our grandmothers making garments from sewing machines, we could embelish or fully fashion garments with 3-D printing at home. Concepts included reusability of the filament while printing. In this project, the dress form was used to sculpt the embelishments for the dress with a 3-D pen.
